November 2025 Health Benefits Info Session

Legal assistance
MELS (Municipal Employees Legal Services) covers active members and retirees living in NY State. To determine your eligibility for the benefit call MELS at (212) 815-1111. MELS can assist with a wide range of services, such as wills, divorces, eviction proceedings, inaccurate reports to credit agencies, entitlements from government agencies, billing disputes with utility companies, citizenship matters, adoption, name change, buying or selling your primary residence, among other issues. MELS does not accept criminal cases, or handle business problems. Representation is also not available for defense of tort claims, such as libel, slander and personal injury caused by negligence.
Childcare Benefit Fund
DC 37 has announced a new fund that will disburse $500 per member per year for licensed childcare and $250 for unlicensed childcare providers (e.g., family members). Contact Moira Dolan at childcareinfo@dc37.net to apply to receive $500 for childcare cost credit.
Professional development funds for members
DC37 will reimburse members up to $1500 each calendar year for approved educational and conference-related expenses. Make sure to read the appropriate rules or call DC37 to check that your expense qualifies before spending the money. There is an online form you can submit once the class or conference is complete with the needed receipts. Read more here.
Health Insurance plans
The Fall 2025 Annual Health Benefits Program Transfer Period for both employees and retirees will be November 1, 2025 - November 30, 2025. For a comparison of costs between plans click here.
Personal Services Unit (PSU)
Provides short-term counseling and assistance with finding a mental health provider. Click here for more information.
Affordable Housing Program
Provides home ownership counseling, and information on affordable housing lotteries and grant program applications for first-time home buyers. Click here for more information.
The Health & Security Plan
Optical, dental, and prescription drug coverage to supplement your health insurance. Click here for more information. There is also a DC37 dental center.
COVID leave
As of August 2025, the City no longer provides excused COVID leave.
