July 20 press conference

On July 20, we held a press conference where over 60 members attended and spoke to the importance of improving working conditions. It got a lot of press attention (see below!) and raised awareness of the fact that we don’t get to vote on our contract. Why wouldn’t we be able to vote on our own contract?? Doesn’t make sense to us either. 

Local 3005 has gained a fair amount of attention in the news! Around the time of our first press conference, we were interviewed by The City Reporter, City & State, Gothamist. Afterwards The Chief wrote a full piece about the press conference and spoke about it on air during the Inside City Hall show. A City & State Reporter live-tweeted the press conference. The Legionnaires’ disease outbreak has rightly been in the news, and President Meghan Peterson has spoken out repeatedly on the needs for more staffing, flexible work, and better pay for Water Ecologists. Even City Council SpeakerJulie Meninspoke positively of Local 3005’s effort.
